The Subconscious

The Subconscious

Did you know there is a part of you that is on auto-pilot? It's called the subconscious. Remember in the Me VS. MY Mind post we talked about the simple phrase "I don't feel like it." Did you know that simple phrase is connected to a pattern.

It's important to understand your pattern - and to better yet have an intentional dialogue and discussion about it so you can change the pattern if necessary. Because bottom line we can't change what we can't see or what we are not willing to look at.

The great thing about the subconscious is that it is programmable. We will talk about that next in the Subconscious Takeover post.

Chasing Excitement:

Everyday we are programmed to avoid the self through social media, television, other people, busy-ness or just not having the courage to face ourselves. No judgement - many of us have been programmed to avoid the painful parts of life. This avoidance stops us from making real lasting change. We become functional in our disfunction - adrenaline junkies, and excitement seekers always chasing the next dopamine fix.

And we can get away with chasing excitement, being entertained and avoiding pain for our entire lives if we choose. Are you wondering why chasing excitement is not ideal for a balanced life - like I'm suggesting and how this makes us adrenaline junkies? In case you are let's unpack it.

Adrenal Fatigue:

Adrenaline rushes are typically triggered by stressful, dangerous, or exciting situations This rush produces a sudden surge of the hormone adrenaline (also known as epinephrine) into the bloodstream, triggering the body's fight - or - flight response. This response prepares the body to deal with a perceived threat by increasing heart rate, breathing, and senses, while also boosting strength and performance.

While Adrenaline rushes alone are not bad - they can overtime cause the body to become imbalanced. This imbalance shows up as irregular sleeping patterns, moodiness, and other issues within the body. Which all ultimately contribute to the  "I don't feel like it" internal pattern.

BALANCE:

Bottom line - balance is key. You have to come home to yourself for things to change in your life. You have to sit with yourself - uninhibited by people, social media, television, or busy-ness so you can face all the feels that show up. These things are not bad - they just can't be used as adrenaline fixes to avoid the hard parts of life because if you use them like that you avoid what it takes to grow.

When you start taking the time to come home to you and be present with yourself - you are saying to yourself I matter. You are saying I see you, I'm here for you and we are going to get to the other side - whatever that looks like for you.

A simple gesture of pausing observing the mind, observing your patterns being with hard feelings and uncomfortable thoughts - processing -  is what helps you make the choices to honor that walk you know will be good for you, drink that cup of water you've avoiding because you don't like the taste, or try that healthy recipe instead of eating junk food.

Yes, you will experience discomfort. Yes, you are going to piss the brain off because it wants to repeat the pattern it knows and can control. Yes, you are gonna mess up. And it may be hard - but we can do hard things. And if you don't take your power back by overriding the brains "I don't feel like it" because I am not use to doing it pattern - you can join every gym, start every diet, and set all the new years resolutions you want. If you don't come home to you - and observe your subconscious - you can't see what's getting in you way - for real.

REFLECTION:

Take a moment and put on some calming music. And just sit with your self for 3-5 minutes at first. Do this once a day for the next week. Let's just see what happens.
