ME VS. MY MIND

When the mind says “I don’t feel like it” it’s basically saying this isn’t a part of my programming and you’re making me feel uncomfortable with this new request. But we talked about discomfort and the how important it is for us to embrace the discomfort. And we know why - the growth, change, and more we seek is on the other side of being uncomfortable.
So how do we get past that feeling? I wish there was an easy button I could offer you. But the truth is - just the fact that this is being addressed - being brought to our attention and we’re talking about this is elevating your consciousness about how tricky the mind can be and the subtle tactics it uses to keep you from making changes.
Think about how often you actually take action on something you don’t feel like doing if no one is making you - no seriously what’s your percentage rate?
MAKE A LIST:
First, let’s start keeping track. To begin let’s make a list of some of the things you know you need to do to get the more you seek but never “feel” like doing. This is an observing your pattern opportunity. I don’t want you to go pulling out a spread sheet or anything - unless you want to. Here's an electronic document you can use to jot some things down.
And so you don't feel alone - and think I am just calling you out - here are some things that were on my list:
- Traveling
- Meditating
- Working out
- Gong Skating
- Riding My Bike
- Practicing Yoga
- Going grocery shopping
- Getting my oil changed in my car
- Paying my taxes before April 15th
- Eating mindfully - without 100 different things going on
And for some encouragement - I'll have you know calling these things out or rather bringing all this stuff to my attention has actually made it easier for me to make some changes. I don't master them every time but the new programming is underway. You could say we go into training as we work to incorporate new habits. Some times we are acing every obstacle and some times we lay in bed under the covers - lol.
I call the training part of our aligning - scientifically they would say we are creating new neurological pathways.
KEEPING SCORE:
For the next step in this exercise it’s important you act normal - lol. We’re not changing anything - we’re just keeping score. You can keep track in your phone - send it to your bestie whatever - you just get it done - do what works.
Now, every time someone mentions to you or you think about something you need to do and your mind say “I don’t feel like it” and you let the mind run you instead of you directing the mind I just want you to mark a tally in the MY MIND column to indicate the mind won.
Let’s do this for a solid week - and let’s see if you make any progress in that new habit you’re working toward. Let's see who wins you or your mind.
Click here or the image below to download the electronic tally sheet. You will be able to mark on the image right from your phone or computer once you click.
WHAT' NEXT
Much of our feelings and behavior patterns are trapped in our nervous systems. So next I'm going to talk about some ways to tap into the nervous system and deregulate some of those old habits from a nerve perspective.
