Progress Not Perfection

So I know I said we'd talk about progress vs. perfection and I promise we will get to that. But I wanted to talk to you about two simple things I learned while studying yoga that you can do to improve your over all well being right now.
- Connect with your breath
- Adjust your posture
One thing I've discovered on my self-care journey is that simplicity is often undervalued and overlooked. We sometimes think we need a bunch of time, tools, skills, and strength to invite more wellness into our lives. Not true. Use what you have - you.
Take a moment right now and take a slow breath in through your nose - let the breath out through your mouth. Now take another one with your eyes closed. If you also managed to expand your belly outward while you did that you probably adjusted your posture organically. If not go ahead and roll your shoulder back so you can stretch your spine upward and sit up tall. Now combine the breath with the posture adjustment.
This little technique of rolling my shoulders back and making sure I am standing and sitting tall helped me in so many ways. M energy improved, my digestion improved, my nerves calmed down, oh and my sinuses improved.
The reason many of us are walking around like zombies, overwhelmed and under-joyed is because we are not taking enough time to connect with ourselves. To be honest many of don't know where to begin with this process. I'm gonna tell you the answer is within - where you are - try different things and see what sticks and resonates with you.
Remember we are looking for progress not perfection. So don't think you have to have a plan. Don't even plan to start. Just start. When I started walking someone asked me how many miles I walked - I had no clue. I wasn't walking for the miles. I was creating the habit of walking. Started out barely doing a mile. Now I am up to three miles a day sometimes more and almost 10,000 steps. But that is not the point.
The point I am making is sometimes we get so fixated on doing it "right" we talk our selves out of progress because we get so down on ourselves when we miss a day or don't reach a goal.
Kick the goal to the curb and just start. Whatever it is. Do it for fun, do it to cope with stress, do it to relax but just do it.
REFELCTION:
What's one thing you've been wanting to start but haven't because you don't feel like you are ready, don't have the time, money, or resources?
WHAT'S NEXT:
Next up we will talk about the navigating the subconscious.
