Creating a Hair Care Routine

Creating a Hair Care Routine

Creating a healthy scalp and hair routine is not always easy. Let's face it - washing natural hair can often feel like one more long drawn out chore on the to do list. So how can we create a routine that is practical for your lifestyle?

First think about your WHY. Nine times out of Ten this reason is similar for most people. We want a head full of healthy hair for our entire life span.

Now that we've identified the why let's map out a strategy of how to keep our hair on our head.

CREATING THE HAIR WASH HABIT:

Now that you know what your hair needs here are some simple tips I recommend to help you make the hair washing process easier:

    • Make a list mental or physical of all the current obstacles you face when trying to wash your hair.
      • You'd be surprised how just raising your awareness about the obstacles can help you develop quick and easy solutions.
      • Once you see the obstacles - spend time addressing how you can over come each of them. Below are a few common obstacles and some possible solutions:
        • Children -
          1. plan to wash when they are away or asleep
          2. have an activity they can do while you wash your hair
          3. let them be a part of the routine (maybe they can help you)
        • Work -
          1. Wake up a little extra early to get it done before work starts.
          2. Plan to wash your hair on your lunch break (if you work from home)
        • Too much hair -
          1. Have a friend or partner help you
            • This maybe tricky to get them to commit - but maybe you could barter with them.
    • Put a re-occuring calendar reminder in your phone
      • Having a set day can help create a routine and once we get into a routine it's easier to stick with them.
    • Remember your WHY
