Keeping your scalp and hair healthy

Keeping your scalp and hair healthy

Let's talk about our 3 Step System regarding what it takes to keep a healthy scalp that will lead to and maintain healthy hair. This way we can understand why prioritizing our hair care routine is important for the goal of experiencing the type hair you can be proud to have.

What it takes to keep your scalp healthy:

  • STEP 1: A regular wash schedule - in the last blog post false beliefs regarding caring for natural hair - we talked about how washing your hair often will not strip it of its natural oils.
    • Your hair is like a garden and it needs water to stay hydrated and to ensure proper blood flow and oxygen is available for the purpose of providing proper nutrients, and prevent unwanted bacteria from living on your scalp and hair strands.
    • Making sure your scalp is free of build up, free of unwanted bacteria and receiving the proper nutrients will help with hair growth and retention throughout the different stages of the hair growth cycle.
  • STEP 2: Using nutrient rich products - it's tempting to buy the cheapest products on the shelf when your budget is tight. Don't do it. When it comes to what goes on or in our body cheap is not the route to take. You want quality.
    • Be sure to check the ingredients on the products you are using.
    • Many companies use a lot of fillers to maximize their bottom line (make more money with less investment) So they add a bunch of fillers to stretch the ingredients. Be careful of this.
    • Just because it says aloe or avocado are in the product doesn't mean the amount in the product is enough to provide the benefits its claiming on the bottle. The main ingredients are listed first.
  • STEP 3: Visiting your loctician (natural hair care specialist) regularly - let's face it: you can't see your scalp or hair like someone observing from an external view can.
    • I recommend going no more than 6 weeks without having a visit to your loctician. There are times when you need to stretch this because of unexpected life events - but make a habit of being consistent with your hair appointments.

Ensuring these 3 STEPS are a part of your scalp and hair care routine will help make having healthy hair a consistent reality for you.
