Knowing the different hair growths cycles is not as important as understanding that your hair has different needs during the different stages. Understanding what your hair needs will help you to easily grow your hair and retain the hair once it grows.
The hair grows through three - four different stages on a continuos cycle. The hair on our head is going through each of these different stages simultaneously. Providing our hair with proper nutrition, oxygen, and moisture flow is important for hair growth and retention.
- Nutrition will ensure the glands in your body keep producing the necessary hormones for hair growth, oxygen will ensure your cells receive the nutrition and necessary chemicals produced by your glands to generate hair production, and moisture ensures the hair does not break off once it grows.
- Our hair relies on us for nutrition similar to an unborn fetus in it's mother's womb. The hair, during the Anagen stage - which lasts for 5-7 years, is connected to our body's blood supply. Once the hair enters into the Catagen and then the Telogen stages the hair begins to detach from the blood supply. When the hair detaches from the blood supply we must keep the hair moisturized to avoid breakage and promote retention.
- Providing the hair with the proper nutrition is connected to the food we eat and ensuring we are getting the proper vitamins. Be sure to consult your physician to ensure your vitamin counts are up to the standards your body needs.
- We must also ensure we are getting the proper rest so that stress hormones do not interfere with our hairs growth cycle. To keep the hair moisturized we must understand our hair porosity.
- Understanding and knowing what your hair porosity is will help you take the necessary steps to help your hair loc in moisture. In the next blog post I will discuss how to loc in your hairs moisture according to your hair porosity.
